How to Choose the Right Shoe

Choosing the right shoe for an outfit is a big topic of conversation right now! When getting dressed the other day I was considering three different shoe choices with this outfit.

Here are a few reasons I ended up choosing to go with the lighter tan colored boot for this look over the black and brown booties:

1. Believe it or not, I have shorter legs and a super long torso, so I’m always looking for ways to make my legs look longer. Choosing the tan boots that match the color of the pants help make the line of my leg seem longer than it really is because there’s no line break between the pants and the shoes. The tan boots help give my leg the appearance of one long, continuous line.

2. Always look to see how colors mix together. When comparing these three boots with the tan and darker red color in my outfit I felt any of them could have worked but of the three, the tan boots matched the best! I love a little matchy-match moment. If I was looking to make more of a statement with my shoe in this outfit, I may have chosen the black bootie, as there’s a bigger contrast between the tan pants and black booties. So much of fashion is leaning on your personal style preference…own it!

3. In this case all three boots had pointy toes and heels, so I didn’t have to take those issues into account, but you have to remember to consider both of those things when choosing the right shoe for an outfit. Pointy toed shoes will always make you look taller, longer, leaner, and graceful…who doesn’t want that?! When choosing the height of a heel, make sure you take into the account the length of the pant. You never want the bottom of your pant dragging on the ground so choose a heel height that doesn’t allow that.

BONUS TIP—With so many wider leg pant choices now, if wearing a bootie you want to choose one that has a higher shaft to tuck up into your pant leg. This gives a much more modern, updated look. Ankle booties (the shorter bootie where your ankles are showing because the shaft is short) are a thing of the past.
